Congratulations on your inauguration to your 2nd term Mr President! Those of us who voted for you are so happy and proud to see you sworn in today. It was a brutal and bloody fight to keep your seat as our nation’s leader, but we knew you could pull it off.
Now, the real work begins. As you begin your 2nd term, we still have many challenges we face as a nation. Rising deficit, unemployment still hovering in the 7-8% range, inequality in income, marriage rights, and dealing with immigration reform. We still have “corporations are people” on the books (Thanks Supreme Court! ugh!! boo), and Congress continues to try to repeal healthcare reform. And most importantly, we need to get some comprehensive gun reform legislation passed in your second term, hopefully this year. We (mainly you) have your work cut out for you.
I truly hope that the partisanship that plagued your first term will end in your second, however that is certainly pie in the sky wishful thinking. Until idiots like Mitch McConnell, Lindsey Graham, Paul Ryan, Rand Paul, and the other tea-baggers within the republican party are booted out of their seats, we’re stuck with what we have and we have to figure out a way to make it work. I truly hope that Harry Reid can pass the filibuster reform ASAP, as that is the #1 reason we’ve had slow growth, no budget, and this pessimistic outlook by the American people about the recovery. These idiots have abused their power for far too long, held the country hostage (debt ceiling!), and taken advantage of a rules system in place so the minority could have a voice – not so they could obstruct every piece of legislation presented to the Senate. This MUST happen.
Mr President, PLEASE, do not give up on the gun reform legislation. Semi automatic weapons, 10+ round ammo clips, do not belong on our streets. There are many law abiding citizens who own these weapons, however there are many who do not have good intentions and those who just plain snap. Many of the perpetrators of mass shootings were not “criminals” before their rampage, they became criminals the day they decided to shoot up a school, mosque, temple, theater, and shopping mall. Our children should be able to go to school without fear of a crazed gunman entering their safe sanctuary of learning. When I was a kid we had tornado drills and fire drills. Today they also have drills for shooters in the building. That is a sad day when our children need to worry about such things. Please make this a priority in your second term. Lets finally take a stand against the NRA, and do what is right for the American People.
Mr President, you are the steward of our democracy, and the guide for our country in the next four years. We are entrusting you with the ability to work with other elected leaders, but hold firm to your convictions and the promises you made to this country which earned you our vote. We weren’t promised hand outs, or welfare. We were promised opportunity on an equal playing field, a fair shake at achieving our dreams if we work for it. A promise that our children will not be left a broken country and a broken planet, that boy or girl they should be treated equally under the law. That gay or straight, the law should recognize the love you have for your partner in life, and the promise of that love through legal marriage. We plan on holding you to those promises Mr President, we are entrusting you with our future and the future of our great country.
Thank you Mr President, for your kind heart, intellect, and strength of your convictions. We appreciate everything you’ve done for our nation these first four years, and can’t wait to see what the next four years will bring!
